Since 2021, the province has provided families earning $60,000 or less with the Active Families Benefit, a refundable tax credit intended to help offset the cost of enrolling children in sports and cultural and recreational activities. The maximum credit claimable under the program was $150 per child, increased to $200 for each child with a disability.
In this year’s budget, the Saskatchewan government announced that both credit amounts and the family income threshold under the Active Families Benefit program would be doubled. Accordingly, the maximum per child credit which can be claimed each year is increased to $300 and the maximum credit claimable for a child having a disability is increased to $400. In addition, the eligible family income threshold is increased from $60,000 to $120,000. All of these changes are effective as of January 1, 2025.
